AIS Continues Collaboration with Chulalongkorn University Engineering Research Team Supporting Communication and Enhancing “Nong Pinto” the Quarantine Delivery Robot to Reduce Risks to Medical Personnel Contending with COVID-19

3 April, 2020: AIS has continued its collaboration with the engineering research team of Chulalongkorn University to move forward digital technologies and communication systems for medical personnel contending with the COVID-19 situation, most recently supporting a communication system to the CU-RoboCovid team of the Faculty of Engineering for application in quarantine delivery robot “Nong Pinto” to further its quarantine telepresence capacity, transporting food and medicine as well as facilitating remote communication with patients.

A robot designed to transport and facilitate remote communication for medical personnel, Nong Pinto has the following capabilities:

  1. Transportation of Meals and Pharmaceuticals - Remote controlled using a wireless system, medical personnel can reduce the risk brought on by being in close contact with infected patients while still being able to closely monitor their conditions.
  2. Telecommunication - Using a screen attached to a trolley remote controlled over a wireless system, doctors and nurses can monitor patients while reducing the need to dispose of exposed equipment when moving between different zones as well as their exposure to infected patients.

The Quarantine Delivery Robot and its Quarantine Telepresence system are being gradually installed for use at:

  1. Ramathibodi Hospital - Provided with 1 Nong Pinto robot and 6 quarantine telepresence machines.
  2. Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital - Provided with 17 quarantine telepresence machines.
