AIS Joins The Mall Group in Continued Fight Against COVID-19 using 5G Robots Strengthens Safety Measures for Thai Mall-Goers in New Normal

16 June, 2020: In the interest of bolstering confidence in the retail industry, AIS has joined hands with The Mall Group to introduce digital technologies responsive to the New Normal. AIS has setup smart robots developed by AIS Robotic Lab, including ROC, K9, LISA and PP, to work via LIVE Network 5G, screening shoppers, checking temperatures and providing healthcare with speed, accuracy and minimal physical contact to protect against the spread of COVID-19 at The Emporium, The Emquartier, Paragon Department Store and The Mall Bangkapi, affirming safety for the Thai people and supporting its businesses with sustainability.

Mr. Prathana Leelapanang, Chief Consumer Business Officer for AIS, said “with lockdown measures relaxing, many businesses have returned to operation, including retailers who form an important part of the Thai economy and society. AIS, as a digital leader and developer of digital solutions, AIS has tapped into the power of 5G, which allows for high speed internet and low latency for improved IoT Connectivity, in turn supporting higher efficiency in safety.” Showcasing the tangible impacts of 5G to modern lifestyles, the collaboration is being carried out in the following ways:

  1. An extensive 5G network is being established to facilitate efficient use by both 4G and 5G AIS clients
  2. Smart robots will be screening shoppers, checking temperatures and expediently providing health support with minimal physical contact to protect against the spread of COVID-19 in department stores. They include:
    • ROBOT FOR CARE (ROC)-screening and checking temperatures at department store entry points, providing alcohol gels
    • AIS K9-providing alcohol gel throughout department stores
    • PP-welcoming shoppers and presenting promotional media ahead of shop visits
    • LISA-welcoming shoppers, providing information and leading shoppers from point to point
  3. Safety measures will be implemented for AIS Shop customers, including, temperature checks, alcohol gel provision, acrylic screens, traffic management, social distancing, personnel screening and hygiene equipment provision and regular cleaning of shop surfaces

Initially, all 4 robots will be providing care and facilitating the New Normal on Saturdays and Sundays, twice a day at 13.00 -15.00 hrs. and 17.00 - 19.00 hrs. as follows:

  1. Saturday 20 June, 2020 at The Emquartier
  2. Sunday 21 June, 2020 at The Emporium
  3. Saturday, Sunday 27-28 June, 2020 at Paragon Department Store
  4. Saturday, Sunday 4-5 July, 2020 at The Mall Bangkapi
