AIS showcases world-class capabilities the first and only company in Asia to win 3 ASIAN Telecom Awards In line with goal to become leading Cognitive Telco

30 March 2022: Market leader AIS is committed to the goal of becoming a Cognitive Telco through the development of its AIS 5G network. This critical factor of digital tech infrastructure has a vital role in enhancing the user experience for customers and encouraging business growth. This in turn leads to an improved competitive edge, and increased abilities to attract sustainable investment into the digital economy. All of this dedication is highlighted by the awards won by AIS at the ASIAN Telecom Awards. AIS is the only Thai company to have won an award, and the only Asian company to scoop a total of three awards - Mobile Operator of the Year, Telecom Company of the Year and Digital Initiative of the Year, from Asian Business Review magazine, a Singapore-based publication expert in ranking telecom companies, which are widely recognized by operators in the Asia-Pacific telecommunications industry.

AIS CEO Somchai Lertsutiwong noted, “All of our awards highlight the dedication of the AIS team to achieve the company’s goals. Despite last year facing many challenges, including the pandemic and the state of the economy, AIS remains committed to delivering the best quality services to meet the increased demands of the New Normal. We have never stopped developing infrastructure, both network and digital platforms, and remain on track to be leaders in Digital Life. We have announced many collaborations with both Thai and global partners to provide the solutions which will level up business capabilities in different industrial sectors. In terms of retail customers, AIS continues to provide superior digital lifestyle experiences with the installation of the 5G network to cover all 77 Thai provinces. The company’s fiber optic broadband service is the fastest in the market and the main reason we have won ASIAN Telecom Awards, in the three categories of Mobile Operator of the Year, Telecom Company of the Year and Digital Initiative of the Year.”

The ASIAN Telecom Awards have been presented to telecom companies in the Asia Pacific with outstanding management for the last 10 years, and are hosted by Asian Business Review magazine in Singapore. This year, AIS is the first and only Thai telecom operator to receive these honored awards for leading global telecom companies. AIS is also the only company to have received awards in three categories , comprising:

  1. Mobile Operator of the Year: This award is presented to network service providers with excellent service coverage who have provided digital and value-added services on top of network service. The winner is also able to leverage the potentials of both mobile and fibre broadband networks for public benefit to level up various sectors. Today, AIS 5G service covers all 77 provinces, amounting to 76% of Thailand’s population, over 99% of the population in Greater Bangkok, and over 90% of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)
  2. Telecom Company of the Year: This is given to a telecom operator with outstanding operating results, both in terms of market growth and the organization’s adaptations to cope with challenges efficiently, by progressing from a network service provider to become a Digital Life Service Provider, and now including the further upgrade to Cognitive Telco.
  3. Digital Initiative of the Year: This is an award for telecom providers who have been able to make the step change from providing network service to building innovations meeting the needs and behaviors of a diverse range of customers. This is accomplished by leveraging the company’s potential to connect products and services with digital innovation. For instance, the world’s first virtual shopping mall, V Avenue.co, now counts among its partners retailers, restaurants and fashion brands. Many operators have now opened shops on the platform. Then there is Ailynn, Thailand’s first Virtual Influencer, who has become a presenter for digital lifestyle products and services.

Somchai concluded, “We have to thank Asian Business Review for presenting us with these three valuable awards this year. I believe that these awards highlight our capabilities comparable to leading global companies. Today, our new goal is to move ourselves from being a Digital Life Service Provider to a Cognitive Telco. The role of a market leader is not only ensuring #1 Market Share. It is exploiting the company’s strengths to create sustainable growth for employees, society, the economy, partners and the country simultaneously. I therefore dedicate these awards to every member of the AIS teams, as motivation for their work in the future.”
