Ban Dok Mai Sod is a highland border community located in Tha Song Yang District, Tak Province. The community has successfully preserved its simple way of life and the strong bonds among its residents. Most people rely on agriculture and natural resources for their livelihoods while maintaining the traditions, customs, and beliefs passed down through generations.

Surrounded by mountains and elevated terrain, the community enjoys an environment well suited to household-scale agriculture and residential living. Although it is located in a remote area, Ban Dok Mai Sod remains connected to neighboring villages and communities through local transportation routes.

Today, Ban Dok Mai Sod has a population of approximately 712 residents living in around 200 households. The community benefits from a strong local governance structure, including village leaders, village committees, and community-based organizations that work together to improve the quality of life for local residents. The majority of the population practices Christianity, which serves as an important spiritual foundation and a unifying force within the community.

Agriculture is the primary occupation of local residents. Common activities include rice farming, crop cultivation, food production, and livestock raising for subsistence purposes. Some residents also engage in wage labor in nearby areas. The average household income ranges between 50,000 and 80,000 Thai Baht per year. Although income levels are relatively modest, the community embraces a sufficiency-based lifestyle, uses resources wisely, and maintains a strong culture of mutual support and cooperation.

In terms of education, children and youth have access to schools within the area and nearby communities. Learning also takes place through daily life, local wisdom, and community activities, helping to develop practical life skills and strengthen young people's connection to their community.

The residents of Ban Dok Mai Sod continue to uphold their customs, traditions, and religious activities. They place great importance on unity, mutual assistance, and maintaining a balanced relationship with nature, all of which form the foundation of the community’s resilience and strength.

Regarding infrastructure, the community is equipped with electricity, water supply systems for household use, internal village roads, places of worship, and communal spaces for public activities. Although access to certain services remains limited due to its border location and geographical conditions, the community continues to make steady progress in improving the well-being of its residents.

With its strong social capital, abundant natural resources, and active participation from community members, Ban Dok Mai Sod has significant potential to develop into a model community for self-reliance, quality-of-life improvement, and sustainable development in Thailand’s border regions.
